Does anyone know if it's possible to change the oil pump without having to remove the pushrods, is it possible to get the vavles/lifters all in a closed position so there's no load on the cam?
I have a new oil pump and I'd rather not have to fit adjustable rods and the expense etc

Thanks in advance
You do not want to try this.
You cannot center the pump on the crankshaft by the instructions if you have pushrods in it.
Plus those springs are strong.
You're gonna have to get adjustable pushrods. SE's are pretty easy to swap in.

because they come in cool colors and cost hundreds of $$$ more than the OEM, which just so happens to have proven itself over time to perform its intended function admirably well

That's interesting but I'm curious how they handle centering the camplate and oil pump while they're so much pressure on the cam? With everything pushing down it seems that you'd create a hotspot on the top side of the camplate, not allowing it to center on the shaft's runout range.
My bike has SE Adjustable pushrods, and I have magnetic lifter holders so it'll be easier to let everything center on the pinion shaft.

not to mention the stress on that cam bearing.

There is no short cut, the pressure on the pushrods must be removed, either remove the rockers or cut the pushrods.

LOL. leave the shortcuts to the pro's.
I do it the longhand way for the above stated reasons, centering and cam bearing side load.

The pushrods don't have to be removed but I'd bet they are adjustable and loosened..

It took HD a few tries but they finally got the oil pump figured out. 2019 later production had the new pump. And as mentioned the softails did not seem to have the sump issue.

Not all sumpping was caused by oil pump anyway some were oilers leaking.

It is so easy to check for sumpping . No reason to change it just to change it.

If you are going though all that just to change it do a good aftermarket stage tow . Make it worth your time and money.
