Default Totalled Bike

I have a '16 FLSS w/ 3500m that was totaled and Im being offered $16k for it. Only prob is I have $5 in add ons the insurance company wont cover. The frame is bent and the whole front end would been to be replaced. I have State farm. Any one have any suggestions on getting a more reasonable offer? The will cover my seat, siren/alarm(HD) and saddlebag setup but thats about it. They claim the LED lights and other items like daymaker headlight and aux lights are personalization and dont add value to the bike.

I was told I can hire my own appraiser but not sure if that would be worth the squeeze.

Strange, my State Farm agent always told me to keep receipts for add ons !!! I even added a trike kit and was told to take pictures and it would be covered. Even called the home office to make sure!

I have all my receipts. 30 items and 3 were covered. From the sounds of it this was not a state farm decision but whoever the 3rd party that gets totaled vehicles would consider to add value.

They usually have a clause that states how much aftermarket they will cover. I got my add ons from the Lizard when i had a claim. Take the money and go get another bike.

It is important to ask for the breakdown on the $16,000. How much of this is for the accessories? If State Farm valued your bike at $13,000 and included the policy limit of $3000 for the accessories, now you know what you need to work on. You don't have to accept their initial offer. The Total Loss Report should include their comparison units and how they arrived at the settlement offer. If you don't have this report, ask your agent.

After you get your new motorcycle, make sure the new policy has replacement settlement included. This will take the depreciation out of the claim. If your bike is declared a total loss, the policy will replace it with a brand new, current year model.

Good luck!

If they say the add-ons don't add value, it shouldn't affect the offer if you take 'em off.

That was my reply but they said I’d have to replace them. Wouldn’t be worth it have it brought to my house

Question is what coverage did you buy. When I totaled my 2011 i had $3,000 in coverage for extras add ons. had nothing to do with adding value. They ask for no documentation and paid the $3,000 no question ask. Also replaced my helmet and gear and that did not come out of the $3,000. It all comes down to what coverage did you purchase. Did you have the bike taken to an HD dealer? If it went somewhere else that part of the problem.

Hire a appraiser that knows bikes and how the appraisal clause works.

We appraise for SF and normally give 30% for add's.
