Super story.
72 y.o. 1000 mile first day ride. Sturgis.
I can understand your trailering desire, but.....
Yet at 72, where are the pics and additional stories of all the younger women you impressed?

Well I would like to tell 0ne additional story. We went to the Indian reservation with the intent to drop off some Elk antlers to a local craft woman. They make really nice buttons when sliced up. I was deeply saddened by the living conditions and disrepair of the homes there. The place reeked of poverty. When we got to Wounded Knee. the local drug addicts and alcoholics were pressuring tourists for money. I would have thought a sacred site would be off grounds for the deerlicks. I find it appalling that we have so many homeless vets and native Americans living in horrible conditions yet we send billions overseas to prop up third world dictators. Ok, I'll get off the soap box. Sorry
Amen my brother! I've been through quite a few reservarions, but the ones in the Dakotas have been the worst. Wind River in Wy isn't any better though it seems less obvious from the road. Truly sad and made worse by how we spend the money we have in other countries that would stab us in the back forst chance they got.
Sounds like you had a great trip! I'm hoping to head to Sturgis next year and may give camping a try as hotels/motels are just crazy expensive during Sturgis. From what I've read, it sounds like many of the campgrounds are very well set up and organized.

Tilford Gulch campground is a family owned cattle ranch 5 miles out of Sturgis. Has showers, restrooms, a bar and grill and power hookups for campers. Great folks. 20 bucks a night for tent camping.
That is quite a day ride for 72 years. Just returned from Sturgis via Yellowstone, rode home from West Yellowstone, MT in a day ( 750 miles ), that was enough for me at 66.
If able to do so planning on going next year again.

Good times in the black hills for the 84th! I trailered 5 bikes out 975 miles. I will NEVER try and cram 5 bikes in a 25' enclosed trailer again. They fit, comfortably - but it was a web of straps everywhere and a total PITA to get everything strapped down securely.
Can't wait until next rally!
