Default Gettysburg Bike Week

We're heading down from the Albany NY area for the meet in July. We intend to do all the historic stuff, along with attending the event site, but we aren't familiar enough with the area to know where the good ridin roads are. Any suggestions for day trips of 100 miles or so? Thanks.

Pick up 15 south from Gettysburg, run it to Frederick. Check out Catoctin State Park and the mountains of Western Maryland. You can ride to Harpers Ferry West Virginia also, lots of nice roads and scenery

As far as good roads that area is almost all good riding. I live about an hour and a half away and do most of my riding down there. Pick a direction and go. Just remember we don't have to wear helmets in PA but if you go down to MD you will need one. If you want to see a spectacular view put High Rock in your GPS. If you get a chance a good loop would be to go east on Rt 30 to The Mountain House (about 40miles). It is a good biker bar with awesome food (chicken cheese steak) you wont be sorry. Then take old 30 east about 5 miles down off the mountain into McConnelsburg (the little town you can see from the Mountain House parking lot) and get Rt 16 west and take it to Waynesboro (about 30 miles). High Rock is very near there, just outside of town. After high rock you can continue west on 16 (about 10 miles) till you get to 116 at the frontier BBQ and take 116 back into Gettysburg (about 10 miles). I think you will like the ride and the food.

I have to miss Gettysburg this year because my oldest son is getting married that weekend (damn kids..lol)

Here it is on a map just to give you some idea of what I was talking about. The routes are clearly marked (except for the ride from Waynesboro up to High Rock) That is why I said put High Rock in your GPS..
