Default NY/NJ border to Quebec trip

Buddy and I are planning to take the NY Thruway (87) all the way up to Quebec for a ride. Anyone done this or ride a lot up in that neck of the woods?

I live in Plattsburgh, you'll be passing right by me 3 exits before the border. There is some AWESOME twisty mountain roads in the wilmington area, and a kick *** area we call the "knotch" which is a pretty tight wicked winding road that follows the Ausable River with waterfalls all along the right side of the road on the way to lake placid. If you guys want someone to ride with before you get to quebec, lemme know when you'll be coming up this way and I can show you some nice riding areas.

Also, if you get sick of the interstate, get off the Lake George exit an hour north of Albany and jump on route 9 which will pass closely to the wilmington area I mentioned above. It'll take you all the way to Champlain and the border to quebec, with about a 20 mile section following right along the shore of lake champlain, or you can take the Miner Farm Road back to the interstate once you get to a small town called Chazy if you want to go through that border onto 15 into quebec.

If you've never been to Quebec the titty bars are killer. They are mostly if not all nude , alcohol served and there is no tipping the girls make their money fromlap dances. I was in one in Nicolette Quebec and I swear that an old timer traded one of the girls a puppy for a favor if you know what I mean. The above poster is right about the back roads through the Adirondacsbeing very scenic. I've been up that way several times while backpacking.

Awesome guys ! Thanks for "all" the info! Quebec was picked because my buddy is a complete Strip club addict ! So needless to say - he has a complete itinerary lined up for the weekend.

I'm definitly going to ping you Azwethinkweiz before taking off on the trip. The waterfalls sound friggin' great and I'll definitly want to hop on 9 and get off the Thruway once I reach Albany.

Yeah, any idea when you're headin up?

I'm laid off right now so I've got a lot of free time haha. If you wanted to we could meet up in lake placid and I'll show you some nice roads all the way up to the border... It'll be nice getting off the interstate and the route I'd take starts with really twisty roads along the river with nice scenery, mellow 55mph zones with very few boring straights that follows the river and goes through the mountains, then we'll pass Ausable Chasm which is a pretty badass waterfall to the side of an old bridge and end up along the lake shore for a while, and then end up going through downtown plattsburgh and up along the lake through a mostly 35mph ride to rouses point and across to champlain where the border crossing you'll want to take is. I take this ride pretty often, great for clearing your head and hardly any traffic, and takes a good chunk out of an afternoon for me because I take this route to lake placid, hang around in lake placid for a bit and ride back.

anyway, lemme know when you're planning on the ride and maybe I can meet up.
