Default Oil pump questions

Hey all,
I did a search here but didn't find the answer I was looking for after about 15 minutes, so here I am.
I just bought an 04 fx with a tc88 in pieces. I removed the cam plate tonight to do some initial assessment and found that the oil pump and cam plate are bad. Found part of the chain tensioner foot inside.
Just wondering what I should be looking for, and about how much it should cost?
A brief web-search shows pumps starting at around $120 up to about $550.
Inexpensive is best, but I dont wanna have to go back in the engine again anytime soon either.

Any particular brands I should be looking for or staying away from?
Also any other tips are appreciated.

Thanks,
Trfsrfr

The least expensive way forward would be to purchase another stock cam plate and oil pump assembly off eBay or similar. I have seen them go for as little as $50. You can purchase Cyco tensioner shoes for @ $20 which are very popular and considered to be very durable vs. the stock shoes from Harley. However, from your description above it would appear that you have more to deal with than just a cam plate and oil pump?

It sounds as if the engine is apart because there was a tensioner failure. That suggests to me that you should do a complete strip down, if only to confirm there is nothing wrong elsewhere such as inside the crankcases and that the crankshaft has survived. There are alternative upgrades to those suggested by M above, such as a SE or alternative upgrade camplate, which comes with improved tensioners and higher output pump. You also have the opportunity to use aftermarket cams! It would be worth disecting your oil filter, to see if there is any debris inside. If so I'm not sure how best to recover things, as it is likely the entire engine has been contaminated.

I brought it to my HD guy (who is supposed to be pretty good) for the initial assessment. He seemed to think that the crank is okay and that the cylinders are very good. They measured at 3.750.
But yes, it does have other issues. The rocker plates are broken as well at minimum.
I'll tear open the oil filter today and have a gander.

I'd be flushing the baffle in the oil pan real well. If it had an oil cooler, you might as well **** can it because they are all but impossible to get clean.

It'll be interesting to see how this works out ...good luck to you. I hope it doesn't end up being a full rebuild.
