Default Redline 20W-50 in Transmission?

Hey guys,

Dude at the dealer gave me Redline 20w-50 Full Synthetic Motor oil instead of the Redline Transmission. I didn't notice until today (Sunday) when I'm doing the fluid change. I've read hear and there that this is okay for the Transmission too. I've put the pink stuff the last two changes, just wondering if it's okay to use this or not. Yes, no?

2003 Heritage Softail, 50K miles.

It is ok and I would probably use it over the pink stuff. I had that in mine and had some issues shifting. Took it out and everything is fine. Lots of people swear by the pink stuff. I know it smells like death after being used lol.

I put Redline Shockproof in my tranny last change. Not impressed. Use the motor oil.

Love the shock proof myself the only other lube has been gear oil in mine. Sure 20-50 would work just fine.

Motor oil for me now forever, motor oil is way more refined than any of that other goop. My bike shifts very smooth with synthetic motor oil I just happen to use 25w-60 in mine. I read all the comments on the Redline Shockproof so I tried it. My bike shifts harder and I miss 2nd. I switched back to my motor oil everything back to normal again. I'm sure that stuff might work for some but it's not for me. JMO sometimes there is no better mousetrap than what you started with just some really good advertising.

Yesterday i went using Motul 7100 20W-50 for the engine and primary/transmission in my 2010 Sportster. I'm very happy with the results.

Best regards. Safe ride.

Oscar (from Portugal).

You can't argue with the guys that think there is a magic oil for the transmission or primary out there. For years Harley-Davidson used the same 20w-50 motor oil. I have tried many of those magic oils only to always come back to my synthetic 25v-60 motor oil all my bikes in the last 35 years just shift better with motor oil. Put whatever you want in your bike just don't tell me what I use is wrong, or there is something better. I'm sticking to motor oil

Truly I think you need to recheck your cognitive approach.
