Oil bleed through
Okay
Hello all. I have to ask this, I have a 91 Police Special 53,000 + miles (I know I don't get to ride it as much as I would like) anyway, this scoot bleeds oil from the cases, not a lot but noticable when riding long distances at 70+ MPH. The question is would the Factory engine program solve this little problem? Like I said I just had to ask.
Thanks all.

You mean the re-man program where you send in your evo[only] and in 2 weeks they re-build it to factory specs for 1995$?Sounds good to me if its tired,or if a leak really bothers you.Bob

"The remanufacturing program is a good deal in the sense that you're basically getting back a brand new engine." Launched as a pilot program in 1998, the engine-remanufacturing program allows customers to get back in touch with their bikes' initial power and performance by targeting all 1340 Evolution engines on Harley-Davidson motorcycles built between 1984 and 1999.
The program's design is easy and convenient for customers. Once the motorcycle is taken to an authorized Harley-Davidson dealership, mechanics remove the engine, package it in a specially designed container and ship it to Milwaukee. The engine is then completely taken apart and inspected. The heads, cylinders and flywheels are all remanufactured to original factory specifications. In nearly all instances, components are installed into new crankcases as original crankcases typically do not pass the inspection criteria.
All paint is stripped off, allowing technicians to further inspect engine components. Customers can choose between three finishes: Black and Chrome; Silver and Polished; and Silver and Chrome for their engines. The process comes with many new components such as rocker boxes, gear cover, valve train, fasteners, gaskets, bearings and more. A remanufactured engine with black and chrome finish costs $2,195, whereas the silver finish costs $1,995."

The factory rebuild costs you $2K, plus labor at the dealership. I wouldn't spend that much money for a small oil leak.
If it really bothers you, take it to a local indy and have him replace the gasket.
If you really want a rebuilt engine, again take it to a local indy. That's your oppurtunity for axtell cylinders, better cam, etc.

This isn't a gasket problem, it's a porous case problem. I don't think the HD rebuild replaces the cases for the standard price. Have seen where a shop took one down to the cases, cleaned it as well as possible, coated the inside of the cases, and put it back together. Worked for awhile, but I don't know for how long, or if it would work in every case.

Siver engines are bad for "seepage" on a black case you would probably never notice it but a silver one sticks out like a sore thumb. The gaskets can wick a small amount and it looks huge.
