I've heard the true duals hurt the midrange on some bikes. never heard of the wimmer waterproof intake. what pipes ya got on there now.,,

 

Bassani 2:1 Road Rage...they're pretty badass. I bought the blacks...AWESOME! No flaking as of yet, no color change.

I'm sure there are 1 or 2 other pipes out there that may be better...but I love these! GREAT tone!

BTW, when I said I change oil every 2500 miles...that's give or take. I've been as high as 3500, maybe even 4000...but never 5000. Another reason I do this aside from protecting my parts...auto manufacturers say every 3000 miles. Now, why can we go 5000 miles on our Hogs and only 3000 miles on our vehicles?

 

Amsoil says you can go twice the mfgs recommended change interval or 10 k miles or change it once a year. They can do that due to the higher quality oil and additive package thats in the oil. you could do the same with your car if you use any top brand oil like mobil1 or amsoil. castrol ect. 3k has got to be with dino oil. and I believe its the people that sell oil, that want you to change it at 3k not the mfgrs.In my explorer I have been using the mobil1 extended performance 5w30. they say you can go 15k betwwen changes, but I only take it to 10k. at that point I feel I got my moneys worth out of that oil.I also change the filter at 5k intervels. 90k miles so far no problems and no oil is used between changes.if you read enough of these oil posts it seems you can realisticly run any type of oil and the harley motor will just keep on truckin.they're not as particular as their owners are as far as which oil works best. Use what you like as long as it meets the mfgrs specs, you cant go wrong.,,,

 

FWIW- Ford now recommends 5000-7500 mile (or annual) oil changes, and GM has gone to an "Oil Minder" system that monitors the oil electronically & tells you when to change it, but also with an "annual" limitation if you drive low miles every year. All the vehicles I've had with that system set off the "change oil" light around 4500-5500 miles.
H-D recommends 5000 mile changes, and this is with dino oil.

Some of you may remember the oil tests conducted by Consumer Reports back in 1996 where they tested 20 oils in taxicabs in NY City for 60,000 miles. They changed the oil in some at 6000 mile intervals, others at 3000 mile intervals, then after 60k miles tore all the engines down & measured wear on all the parts. There were no measurable differences between the engines with oil changed at 3k as compared with those changed at 6k. Also, after the test results for all oils were in, no brand of oil stood out as being better or worse than the other and all were still within spec for their viscosity rating. In the end they recommended oil changes of 6000-7500 miles.
These tests were conducted 11 years ago, but oils have only improved in those 11 years, so the results are likely still valid.
However, oil change joints are still recommending 3k miles, which = more money in their pockets...

While I follow the manufacturers service recommendations for all my engines, everyone should make their own decision and do whatever gives them a warm & fuzzy. But like Big Cahuna, I believe there's a point where it becomes wasteful...

 

I go change every 5K and use high quality syn. It is part of the maintenanceregimin I have gotten used to. If I put less miles on (12-15K yr.) I would change every six months anyway.

Strange as it might seem to some, I believe bikes ridden daily can go longer between changes , milage wise, compared to weekend rider's bikes. Not a putdown here. Many CAN'T ride lotsof miles due to work, family etc. That is why limiting changes and service checks to every six months makes sense to me.

I know guys who bought low milage, bargain garage queens and then had leaks and other problems. While they often think the bikes had higher miles, I think lots of trouble comes from a combination of lack of use and maintenance. I would buy a normal milage, well maintained bike over a low milage "sitter" anyday.

Badpiggy , if you would have changed that filter to a regular type in stead of a waterproof it will make good power .

 

ok now I am confused, I run the standard HD oil's in my bike. If I was to changes to amsoil can you still use the HD filter or do you need to change the filter as well?

Does the type of oil really affect the bike if you are changing it every 2500 to 3500 miles. I can see the cost savings by putting the higher grade oil if you are now only going to change it every 5000 to 10000 miles.

Does this make sense or am I missing something?

 

The H-D filter can be used regardless of oil type or choice. It's a good filter.
Even using synthetic I wouldn't recommend going more than 5000 miles between changes. Your choice of H-D oils is fine- especially changing it at 2500-3500 mile intervals...

I am running amsoil 20w50 in engine and primary and amsoil Severe Gear in the tranny. My plan is to change engine oil and filter every 2500 - 3000 miles and then change tranny and primary every 5000 miles. Does this sound good? I agree, fresh oil is cheap insurance.

You have part of the answer right, changing the oil at 2500-3000 miles is good insurance but the trans and primary only take a quart each, even though they probably could go longer, why cheap out here?

As far as one brand of oil going longer than another brand between changes, all I can say here is it's your bike that you paid for, if you feel there is any merit in this, run it longer between changes. Remember though if you have an engine problem because of wear due to oil like oil consumption or lower than normal compression , you saved some money by running the oil longer.
There's no miracle oils out there that are so much superior to others regardless of what is posted on the forums. Use a quality oil, preferably a synthetic that will stand more heat and of the right weight for your motor and change it regularly with a filter when you do it. You'll enjoy a better running engine in the long run.[/align]
