Been using HD's 20W50 in the crankand Formula+ for primmary and tranny. Switching tomorrow as soon as the store opens to Mobil 1 V twin for crank, Fourmla+ for pirmary and Mobil 1 75W90 for tranny.
Thanks for all the good info here.

I will be going to the Mobil 1 I believe but I won a case of royal purple 20W 50 in a charity auction for $21. I thought I could get the max cycle but after I won the auction I was informed only motor oil. So I am planing on using this case and going to the motorcycle Mobil 1.

I said AmsOil, but I have not decieded yet. I had been using SYN3, but I found out on this forum that SYN3 is made by Citgo, and Citgo is owned by our South American Friend, and I will not give him another dime! As far as I'm concerned, he can dry up and blow away.

Just finished switching tranny oil from Formula Plus to Mobil 1 70W90. Went about 10 miles the 3rd and 4th gear whine is almost all gone, shifts easier and nutral is easier to find. Only thing that worries me is putting synthetic in with older seals.
Will switch to the Mobil 1 V Twin when oil change is due in a couple of weeks. Guess I'll stick with the formula Plus in the primary.

First off, I use Amsoil in everything. First it's great stuff and second, my racing partner is sponcored by them and he gets a discount. Saying that, I would use any synthetic over dyno juice unless I'm breaking in a new motor. Castrol is the best non synthetic out there period. Mobile one is a blend, not a full synthetic even though it says so on the side of the bottle. The government has lowered the requirements of what it takes to be called a synthetic. It's good oil don't get me wrong, but it is NOT a full synthetic. I don't know about syn3. Amsoil, Royal Purple, Red Line are all full synthetics and great products. I use to run Schaeffer Racing oil with great results. Schaeffer is the oldest lubrication company in the US. They make mostly diesel oils and make a great product. It is a blend like Mobil One, and a very good one also. It's mostly a matter of how often do you want to change your oil? With Castrol I changed every 3000 miles. With Schaeffer, a blend, I went 5000 miles. With Amsoil, or other full syn, I would go 10,000 with a filter change half way through and of course a top up. That's my .02 cents worth, well maybe a nickel!

1. The government has set no, nada, zip, zero standards as far as what constitutes a synthetic oil.
2. Mobil 1 is a true synthetic, not a blend. If you want to argue that point, argue it with the people who determine what constitutes a synthetic, the sanctioning body, if you will. The oil manufacturers involved in this have determined what constitutes a synthetic. Whether Mobil 1 is now a Group III, or is still a Group IV, oil is something they aren't saying. I've seen/heard evidence on both sides of the fence. Suffice it to say Mobil 1 always seems to rank right at the top of the charts in most tests.
3. Many synthetics are "Group III" oils, hydro-cracked from petroleum base stocks. They are full synthetics. "Group IV" oils are the manufactured synthetic oils, built up molecule-by-molecule.
4. Most synthetics are between 80 - 90% synthetic, but their additive packages are often mixed with regular dino oils. So even the best synthetic "might" have only 80% synthetic and be 20% "other" stuff. If that concerns you, ask the manufacturer to tell you what Group the additives are mixed with.
5. A blend is a regular so-called dino oil mixed with a small amount of synthetic oil. The ratio is usually 90% dino, 10% synthetic. But it does not have to be that ratio.
6. Castrol is one of the better dino oils. The best? Very debatable. Ever see the UOAs of Havoline 20w-50 in an Evo motor?
If you wanna cheap primer on oils, look in this section. There are 3 write-ups: Oil Basics, Part 1; Oil Basics, Part 2; and Engine Oil vs Gear Oil. They ain't perfect, and I really need to fix a few things in 'em, but they'll do.
