Pg 509 of the biker's choice catalog..
Carlini Paint Saver Plus Trim Rings.
Looks inexpensive and an alternative to totally swapping out the caps.

Only thing is, the trim ring doesn't work on the fuel gauge side (gauge won't fit). At least on an '04 FXST.

Go to Wal Mart or auto paint store and get a tube of color match touch up paint. Make sure it has clear coat added most do and seal it around where you trimmed old paint. Make sure that no gas or FUMES gets to the new paint untill it cures or it will start peeling again!! good luck!
Hes correct if you do this method go to oreillys or any auto parts store and get some 1/8in fine line tape and use it to make a circle around the area your cutting and follow the edge of the tape should make a nice line.

When anyone is gettin a paint job done make sure your painter uses a sealer around the bung so this doesnt happen.

Seems to be a common problem they just warrantied my tank and sent it in for the repaint. Luckily I found it this summer and reported it so they had it on record when I put the bike in storage this year they immediatley pulled the tank and sent out for paint.
