Paint Bubbled Peeling Around Gas Cap
I took it back to the painter (PGP) who told me that it was not his fault and will repair it, but at my cost. When the bike was painted, they painted inside the rim of the gas intake. I was told that this is the reason why the paint is now peeling and bubbling and that it is the painter's fault. The painter says they have painted a lot of bikes and painted inside the rim and never had this problem. Even the guy at the local HD shop told me the paint shop is wrong and showed me the bikes on the floor where the paint actually stops about a 1/4 inch befor the intake.
I need to know if this actually is the painters fault and since it is only a week old paint job, am I responsible for it or is the paint shop? I have to pick it up today and need to know whether I have a legit argument or not.
Thanks for any help.
Karen
The vapors are weeping under the paint. If the paint was taped at the top of the neck, then there wouldn't be any issues. Take it back and have him redo it. Try and stay calm in your complaint, but keep complaining ... because a squeaky wheel gets the grease.
Don't get paint savers thinking they are going to solve it either! Been there, done that, and it didn't work. The paint crept all the way under and now we cant take the paint savers off without tearing the paint off. Ughhhh!
Good luck,
Benji
P.S.- it may not apply to your issue, but if there is paint peeling under the gas cap, I have taped a circle off and cut away the bad paint, and sealed the edges with a solvent resistant epoxy (Marinetex and a few others). This works and looks fine, as long as the trimming is hidden by the gas cap.
