I would test both the Clutch and the input shaft before I would just start to order things, Take off the primary cover and confirm that your compensator and chain are all good, Then move to test and inspect the clutch. And don't forget to get a manual. If all that tests good then move to the trans.... But GET A MANUAL.........

Thanks for the last post as it was the most helpful
Anyway, I got the tools out and took of the primary case cover off.
The problem was that the plastic chain tensioner shoe was broken, caused by the previous trained mechanic leaving the pulley stop tool in the primary case to rattle around. Lucky it did little damage and did not jam the chain or pulleys.
$50 for new shoe,gasket and fluid and the bike is back on the road.
(and I am ahead one pulley stop tool as well)
