I just took delivery of a 2012 Street Glide, this is my 5th HD; for the life of me, I can't find neutral on this one! Engine running, engine off; doesn't matter... Anybody got a suggestion? Was told by one to change transmission fluid? Really?
The #1 reason for having problems in finding neutral is dragging clutch plates. Begin by adjusting the clutch pack and clutch cable freeplay. It's not a difficult job and it's one all HD owners should become familiar with.
If you've never done the job before and don't have the service manual there are quite a few decent videos to show you the process
Edit: FXDC is a Super Glide, or did you actually mean Street Glide? I believe the Street Glide in '12 still had the cable actuated clutch, but I'm not too up on the changes to the touring rigs
Thanks for the tip; you are correct, it is a Super Glide, my bad. !
I'll give this a look-see - Bob
Cool! Primary and transmission fluids can change how the bike shifts somewhat but having everything properly adjusted is going to have the greatest control over you finding neutral
Just viewed the video; looks like something I can tackle! Wish me luck! Again, thanks so much for pointing me in the right direction, much appreciated . . . - Bob
Be careful to not over torque the locking nut on the adjuster.... leads to cursing loudly and stomping on concrete...
A well adjusted clutch is key... I also use the same oil I put in the engine as in the primary, and a good synthetic gear oil in the tranny.. smooth shifts, zero issue in getting neutral, and reduced 'bang' getting into first.
I just did my clutch adjustment a few days ago. The biggest problem for me was getting that nut loose. It took a while and a little temper flare but once it came loose all was simple from then on. Good luck.
