Default Trouble with 3rd Gear

I'm having an issue with shifting into 3rd gear. Unless I really pull up hard on the shifter, it seems to slip into neutral at times. Seems to happen more when I am getting on it hard like entering a freeway ramp.. This happens a couple of times per week and only with 3rd gear. The bike is a 89 FLHTC with a stock 5 speed tranny. Probably around 30K miles on it. Ive never been into one of these transmissions but have a good mechanical background. Is this something I can fix myself or do I need to take it to a tech? What would typically cause this issue? The transmission fluid was serviced by Strokers in Dallas about a month ago.

Did it do this before you had it serviced so its going from 3rd past 2nd into neutral .

Sounds like the dog teeth on the second or third gears are getting rounded off.

Well, I checked the fluid level and it was fine. Just for ***** and grins, I changed the fluid and used Redline synthetic V-twin trans fluid with Shock Proof. I dont know if that did any good yet but, it certainly shifts smoother. I need to ride it some more for further testing.
