Default Clutch problem after VPC

07 Dyna FXDB

I had some clutch slippage with the VPC on. Clutch would grab way to late when letting out the lever.
So, I removed the VPC to adjust the clutch. Then I put the VPC back on. Here’s the problem:

After tightening the 5 VPC screws, I noticed that it pulled the pressure plates all the way out ( toward the left side of bike or toward the primary side). The screws grabbed the whole clutch and pulled it to where the plates have compressed the spring and star shim, putting complete pressure on the VPC, whereas the weights are all bound up and tight.

In addition, the cable shortened and it took up all the slack; lever became hard. Yes, cable adjuster was all the way slack before adjusting clutch and putting on VPC.

So, what have I done wrong? Is it my error?

Or is there a problem with the clutch ?

Seeking assistance.

Thanks!

With the original spring in place, slacken the cable, release the adjustment, hold the lever to the bar then adjust the clutch at the basket. Remove the retainer screws a little at a time then bend the tabs on the new retainer to match the angles of the original spring, install the VPC and the retainer plate. Once that is complete then adjust the slack out of the clutch cable and put the durby cover back on. This is the instructions per the SE VPC installation located here: https://serviceinfo.harley-davidson....8?locale=en_US

Disregard post. All fixed.

Had to adjust clutch AFTER the VPC was on. My bad. All good now.

You have two different though similar IDs going on here! Split personality?! I suggest you decide which one to use then contact the moderators to merge your two IDs.

Well done for sorting things out - always gives the best of feelings afterwards!
