sportster shifter pawl replacement
Hey all,
I’m looking to purchase and fix up and wrecked 2007 XL1200N. It needs a bunch of things that I’m familiar with replacing like forks, tank, controls etc. One thing I noticed that is broken is the shifter pawl, it is bent and will be needing to be replaced. I was looking through the service manual and the section that describes removing the assembly calls for removing transmission (which also includes removing the engine and splitting the case). I’m assuming there must be an easier way of removing the pawl. Has anyone replaced one of these on a rubber mounted sportster? Maybe I can just remove the stator and clutch assembly? Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

if it is the shifter shaft assy, you can replace it without taking apart the engine, accessible after removing clutch cover. now if it is the drum detent assy, then you are screwed!!! i WILL not buy a new sportster for this very reason, LONG LIVE THE TRAP DOOR!!!
good ?
do you have the fsm?
on my 01, it is easier with clutch off, not necessarily off the shaft. but my shifter id diff from your. only a look-see will tell, maybe a peek through the chain inspection hole will tell, anywho, the cover has to come off anyway.
