Default Primary chain

Hey,
so I have a custom build
89 5speed trans ... Spline main shaft
Engine is 82/82 shovelhead.
I have a 38x2 primary chain, so 76 links
Chain is too big.
My compensator sprocket is 24 tooth
My clutch Sprocket is 36 tooth
Inner primary set up is 1989 Electra Glide.
Any idea what size chain I need?

Thanks in advanced.

I assume big is too long.

Why not break the chain and come up with a length that gives you the correct play with pleanty of travel left to adjust it.

Then see what is available to match that?
The front is one tooth smaller. Is the rear really 36 teeth?
Did this chain work before wear caused you to run out of adjuster travel?

Primary chains come in two lengths for that, 82 link and 76, anything else is dealt with by adjusting it.

I can do that...I'll just need the tools.
This chain was working it's off a Evo engine and a different clutch ...tapered main shaft ... I changed over to a transmission with spline main shaft
Yes I'm sure it's 36 tooth. I took it off marked one tooth and physically counted each tooth.

Put it on, pull it up tight and set the rollers on the teeth, your extra links will make a little ^
Count them.

So that chain was on a 24 tooth compensator and 38 tooth clutch
So original clutch had two more teeth

So you understand something to my knowledge they don't make a masterlink for a primary chain, be wary the advice some give in here, they may mean well but know **** about.

Bob at RB Racing can get you close. You need to know the center to center measurement from the transmission main shaft to the sprocket shaft. Then some amount has to be added for adjustment slack.

You can have a custom dual row chain made. It won't be cheap. Most companies have a minimum for a custom order. USA Roller Chain & Sprockets is one company that makes custom chains. As was said, no master link, that's just asking for trouble.

94 to 97 Dyna came with a 25 tooth compensator and 36 tooth clutch
evos so the transmission should be same and Evo bottoms and shovels comparable....I can get my hands on a 25 tooth.
Would that work?

Exactly, match what should be in there for the later hub.
