open primary belt drives????
give me the prosand cons.
want one on my 04 flht, Bandit brand
I dont mind the noise, I LOVE it,
what else is there to look for. only going a 2.5 wide belt.
will it last aslong as a chain?? well, at least 2-3 years. I wil get spare belt.
let me know before I spend the bucks if they aint work a crap.
lo
thanks, Robin

RE: open primary belt drives????
ya lemme know too, i want this for mine the only con ive heard is that the clutch plates wear faster in the dry clutch setups other than that there good. i got a leak on mine in 2 places one being the stator wires groumet! which is conveinently molded to the stators wires so you have to replace the hole stator just to solve the leak. well im sure it will happen again and rather than spend the 200-300 bucks each time in parts and labor im going to spend 600 on a belt drive dry clutch setup and never have oil in there again!!! but would like to hear sum others input on the situation.

RE: open primary belt drives????
I have a 3" BDL on my FXR.
The Good:
1) dependable-28,000 mi so far
2)good clutch with no drag
3) looks kindacool if that's what you want
The Bad:
1) Noisy-clutch plates rattle and ding a ling (this is "normal" according to BDL)
2) You can't have mid controls
3)Funkifies your pant leg
4) Scares chicks but they get over it
5) Expensive
6) Very vulnerable if you go down on the left side.
7)decreased cornering clearance if you go 3" or wider
