Default Drive belt sqeak

I have a 99 heritage that just turned 60,000 miles this week.About three weeks ago before going to Sturgis I replaced the back tire, brakes and the oil in the primary (I went from regular to syn3).After getting it all back togeather I had a sqeak when I let off the throttle.I was told to double check my tire allienment so I did (still there)then I was told I needed to apply polylube(belt dressing) to my drive belt, so I did and this worked so off to Sturgis we go.After 536 miles and the Spearfish Canyon ride the sqeak was back so I applied it again and it was fine for the rest of the week plus the 536 mile trip home. Now its back again, but when I apply the dressing it goes away for a while but not as long at home as on the trip(2 miles gravel to get to the highway could be part of it).Does this mean my belt is getting bad,I have never replaced it but not sure if the privious owner did or not.About three years ago I had a similer sqeak and my starter went out a coulple weeks later,a new starter took care of that one. Thanks for any help in advance.kopp

The belt is most likely too tight. Loosen it a tad bit and see if that helps.

Ok stupid gustion time.Does the belt get tighter with more wieght added on a softail?I know your supose to adjust the belt with the riding wieght on it but that hard to do alone so I leave it just a little on the loose side, but maybe thats not enough when both my wife and I both get on(I am a big guy and shes not tiny)

My 99 Softail Custom belt gets looser with more load. You could be a tad loose. They do seem to like to be pretty snug. When my wife and I are both on it, it gets pretty loose if adjusted for just me on it.

Properly adjust the belt and then wash it with some soap and water.

I know mine will squeak every once in a while. I think it has something to do with the weather but I have never really payed much attention to when it does it. Mine started right after I replaced it with a new one and it has gotten better over time or maybe the weather has changed and that is the reason.
