Default Heading to Cape Cod

So at the end of the month I'm doing two firsts. I've never been to any of the New England states so I'm setting off on a solo 3 day trip to Cape Cod. Roughly 550 miles from home. One day ride there spend a day there and a day back home. Wife thinks I'm crazy but that's a different story the second first is going to be camping from the bike. I'm an experienced backpacker so I have all the gear for that part. I'm extremely excited about this trip.

550 miles and only a one day ride each way in New England? You are being extremely optimist.

550 in one day is not THAT much of a stretch. Geez, my new bride & I rode to Sturgis from the Albany NY area in two days, a month ago. 1880+ miles. Saddlesore 1000 & a Bun Burner 1500 in one trip. I was on my 14 Wethead & she was on her 09 RKC.

Not sure where your coming from but the cape wouldn't be in my top 100 New England destinations.
550 miles so you can sit on the bridge and look down the canal as you sit in traffic isn't my idea of fun. Lots of people, traffic, bad roads, and sand..BUT some great bars and the best seafood the Atlantic has to offer.
Don't get me wrong the Cape has some beautiful spots ...I ride down to Wellfleet once in a while for oysters (they are the best).
What direction are you coming from? I think there are enough New Englanders on the board to help.

Traffic will be a lot less at the end of sept, and it is a nice time of year to visit. What part of the cape are you plan on seeing?

I'm going to be coming from near Gettysburg Pa. I'll be staying at a campground near Brewster. I will only be there one day so the plan is to more or less ride the coast and see some of the lighthouses and get a lobster dinner

Not sure of the route that you are taking but if you find your self going down 495 in the Lakeville area, do your self a favor. Get off and ride route 105 into Rochester to Marion. Nice country road. Just watch for the signs. It does make some left and right turns,. Will drop you off at route 6 in Marion. From there take a left and follow 6. Eventually you will be running parallel with the canal and can take one of the bridges over to the cape. Enjoy your trip and lobster

I was born on the Cape and lived there through my teens. It's a very unique place but timing is everything there. Try to avoid major holiday long weekends or the only sights you see is a bumper in front of you, a bridge, a rotary and more bumpers.

Jump on Rt 6A as soon as you can off of Rt 3 and stay there. Ask some locals where the best catch of the day can be had at. One day there isn't hardly long enough to see much maybe Highland Light, Chatham Light and Nauset Light.
