Planning a trip to the North East this coming july-august,I will be riding from Il.to New Hampshire to meet my wife near Manchester we are planning 4 weeks in Maine-New Brunswick-Nova Scotia-and Quebec Gaspe' peninsula, other than the Cabot Trail what are your thoughts on other areas of NS And PEI.We will be making most of our stops in Maine and New Hampshire on the return trip, any ideas? Thanks in Advance
Think I will subscribe on this one to see what comes up on the NB/NS/Cabot part since I am going to give it a go this year as well.
Wife flying into Manchester to avoid some of the ride over? Check out the thread on "Southern Maine" that a few of us have been posting on for some NH ideas. On the way home are you touring or coming back to Manchester again and then heading back on the slab? Reason I ask is it will give us ideas on rides specific to your focus area. Some of the typical favorites are the Notch rides, Mount Washington etc but there are many good back roads all over NH (and VT) based on time and whether you are hub located or staying somewhere different each night or couple of nights.

When we went to NS a few years back, we rode across the bridge to PEI staying in Charlottetown. Real nice downtown area with more then enough hotels, restaurants and tourist stuff to look at. Spent two nights there then road to ferry that takes you to Caribou, then rode to Cape Bretton, Baddek to be exact. Easy one day ride, ferry is huge and they supply bike tie downs. Not that we needed them, water was like glass the day we took it. Cape Breton can be a multi day stop, Cabot Trail is killer.
Enjoy, nice part of the world without being too far away.

Thanks Dave, you are correct about the wife she will fly both ways to avoid the extra miles.I have been following the Southern Maine post as well, just hoping to get more specifics on NS and PEI. trying to decide how much time to spend there or ferry to Newfoundland for a couple days normally we do not spend more than a couple days in any location, typically we just keep rolling along day to day finding accommodations as we go,we will be doing the usual stops in Bar Harbor and Mount Washington as well as other stops along the way.I did a forum search and found some posts on NS,just not very specific except Cabot Trail Thanks Again

Maine's version of Cabelas/Gander Mtn:
Kittery Trading Post - Kittery ME
Lobster Rolls:
Red Eat's - Wiscasset ME
HD Dealer:
Mike's Famous HD - New London CT
(I really liked this dealership as they restored an old freight building - Its unique)
Shopping/Outlets:
Freeport Maine where they took old storefronts and refurbished them into a walking shopping district. Its also the home of Land's End.

Thanks for all the great ideas, but after reading so many posts about avoiding rt1 due to summer congestion traffic we have focused or plans further north east, maybe we will take another look at the area.

The problem with RT 1 in Maine is Kennebunkport. For the most part heading north from York, until you get thru the down town.
The rest of Rt 1 is not that bad.
The ere is a nice shore ride starting at that boarder in Kittery, that gets you around some of it.
Take Rt 103 in Kittery, when it ends in York, take a right towards York Beach and the light house. Rt 1a. Then onto Shore Road. Will end short of town center, but a mile up you can head back towards shore, and go around town, thru Cape Porpoise into Arundel and Bentley's Saloon. The #1 Biker Bar in New England !
