Blue Ridge Parkway

We've done the entire Parkway (including the Skyline Drive) a few times and I've always thought the scenery got better the farther south you go.
This time of the year (should) provide great aromas also.
We're planning on doing part of the BRP next month from Buena Vista to the end with my cousin and her husband. I hope the weather cooperates. The last time the wife and I attempted this run it took us over 5 HOURS just to ride the Skyline Drive due to rain, wind, fog, critters and a lot of freshly applied loose gravel on the road.
Unless things have changed (what doesn't) the blackberry cobbler at Mabry Mills is worth the stop.
Get a brochure when you have a chance. Lots up there to see and do especially if you're a hiker or bird watcher.
Plan your fuel, food and lodging as there isn't much on the BRP and you may have to go into a town to obtain these things when you need them.
BTW, Boone is a great "lay-over" town with lots of motels, restaurants, etc.
We've stayed at the Comfort Suites many times and they have a great breakfast (on weekends) and there's an old fashioned diner next door that's hard to beat.
Ride safely and keep a keen eye out for critters as well as at the
pull-offs.
