Lubbock, Amarillo and Lawton
Just a quick note and some pictures from Jennifer and my vacation run this year. Could not be happier with the performance of the '17 Limited, the weather and the roads were fantastic.
I highly recommend TX 114 west from Jacksboro to Seymour, and TX 82/62 into Lubbock. Rolling hills and sweepers throughout. We also enjoyed TX 256 East of Memphis, TX to OK 62 into Lawton, OK. Straight lines, beautiful scenery and almost zero traffic. My only caution would be to make sure you have fuel, as we saw lots of close/abandoned gas stations.
In Lubbock, we stopped at the windmill museum, and then in Amarillo, visited the Cadillac Ranch, and while we loved the iconic site, we were very disappointed with all the trash that littered the area. Palo Duro Canyon was interesting, and the ride to the bottom was enjoyable (watch out for RVs on the hairpin curves).
In Lawton, we visited the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Sanctuary, Mount Scott, and Medicine Park, OK. Passing through the sanctuary is very nice, sweeping curves, (watch out for cattle grates and roaming cattle/buffalo/prairie dogs). Also be aware of your speed. We didn't have any problems, but have heard it is a speed trap. We also visited the Holy City, a site dedicated to the reenactment of The Passion. Our trip up the mountain was uneventful, even though I have a moderate case of acrophobia. Very tight, very steep curves end at two parking areas at the top. The first, smaller area, and a larger area at the very top.
Medicine Park has some quaint shops and restaurants, most of which were closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
The ride home was OK 81 south to Bowie, TX, and at that point, we were almost home.
I will add, that I didn't experience any of the problems with the bike that I have read about. The navigation system deposited us within feet of our destination, the motor was flawless from the bottom of a canyon to the top of a mountain. I fought the new clutch at first, but I really appreciated it going up and down the steep grades. Neither of us had any complaints with the stock seat and floorboards, and the communication system was great.

Both times I have been there have been summer/late summer. Probably best to let someone from that area describe the weather.

Vibe...lived and ridden in Texas for several years and would never consider riding anywhere in the Panhandle during February. Those boys get real winter up there.
