Ozarks in Oct
Did the Ozarks last Spring. Needed to schedule are rides around the daily showers and thunder storms. Feel the need to go back. Would Oct. be a better choice for weather and lack of crowds.
We did the Ozarks, last mid-October. We had heavy rain from Western Texas, to San Antonio, to Austin, to Dallas, to Eureka Springs. Then it cleared and was beautiful. Many great rides and great scenery. Oh yeah, it was cold a few mornings...frost on the bikes...but warms up to mid 60s.
I am in NE Oklahoma so close to the Ozarks. I was in Fayetteville for Bikes, Blues, and BBQ last weekend and it was still hot (90s with heat index near 100 in the afternoon). A cold front is bringing more normal temps this week, 69 is supposed to be the high tomorrow. October into early November is usually great riding weather - cool mornings and comfortable in the afternoons with highs upper 60s to maybe low 80s. Typically not as much rain as in the spring, but if a tropical system comes up from the gulf then it can dump lots of rain over several days.
We just returned from Eureka Springs last week and intend to go back next week. We have experienced beautiful weather that time a year a bit chilly in the morning and then warms up nicely in the afternoon. Last year was forecast for cold and rain and it was sunny dry and mid to upper 70's .
Been a different weather year. We are settling into fronts now though. Couple of days of rain or storm front, depending on how fast front is moving ...then a couple of days up to a week of awesome days for riding....cool mornings and warm afternoons. All in getting in time with the patterns, when the fronts come through. Many are only a few hours of rain. Leaves are late oct, early Nov but nice weekends are crowded in Eureka, Jasper areas and some of the more popular roads....pigtrail, 7 so on.... plenty of other spots tough
We are headed back to that area on Friday this week. Just my wife and I this time so will take our time and enjoy a more relaxing pace.
