We've been up there four times this year. Covered from Little Switzerland North to Meadows of Dan. Actually the first time was in January! Got a beautiful weather break. If we get the bike back from the shop this week we plan to head of to Freebornes on Saturday.
NC 18 may be a good place to start. We got on at US 52 last week and the road was covered in gravel with a road warning sign advising against motorcycles and bicycles. Just don't know how far the issue is going on. We got back off of it immediately.

That stinks! Ran into that early in the year near Hwy 16 but all good now.
