Default Winter riding

I’m looking for some info on some good states to ride in over the winter. Kinda thinking having one place as a home base and venturing out from there. Thinking the whole month of feb. I’d trailer down and basically ride the bike and trailer home. Any ideas or suggestions?

February is one of the best months to ride in Florida. Generally dry and cool with low(er) humidity. You can easily spend a month running the old state highways and seeing some of the "real" Florida down the middle of the state. Of course...the Keys are a must do, and they have recently re-opened them for business.
C'mon down and ENJOY..!!

Southern Florida (not Daytona, couple of hours further down) and Southern Texas are the only places you can bet some money on good riding weather in February. Even then, you could see some cooler days and evenings.

If you are dressed for it you can put some nice mountain day rides.. hours are shortened though. Heated gloves are a must...

Texas might be hit or miss in February. Usually a wide range of weather. Just have to keep an eye on it.
Past Feb saw low's in the 20's-50's with high's in the 40's-70's.

Living in Wisconsin and riding in the winter is a challenge. Be ready to spend a few days in a motel you did not expect due to weather changes. Like it of not there are days you will go nowhere on two wheels. Starting the bike. If they sit to long they will not start in cold. Even in moderate cool let bike cool off then cover it. The controls will freeze if you don't. There are things you can do to slow the damage , but in time the salt will get to it. Always pack clothing for the worst. Winter riding can be exciting but it comes at a cost.
You can extend riding in places like TN, NC. GA. just be ready to sit out some weather. What some call cold is a great day to ride for others so you will need to decide what cold is to you.

I actually prefer riding when I have to put a few layers on. Chilly in the morning, then peel off layers in the afternoon. With that said, if that is something that interests you, there are a number of rides in Southern Utah, NV, AZ, So CA where you can see some incredible sites and still be able to ride year round. The only problem is, that most retirees know these places as well so be careful. Not to say that they are bad drivers, but I find that history is a learning tool.

I was thinking mid to southern Florida or south Texas. Living in northern Michigan one has to try and expand their riding season as much as possible.

Any thoughts on Arizona, Nevada or New Mexico??

I've ridden in Az in Feb many times --home base area around Sun City/Peoria, but spend overnights in Laughlin Nv/ Tucson Az/San DiegoCa[5-6 hr ride]
Depending on weather you can do many rides north[like Vegas] or Grand Canyon[hit or miss] that time of year---Utah will be cold, but if you stay in Vegas for a night and weather cooperates you may have a couple nice days of riding in Utah. Canyons in Southern California are also a day away and beautiful riding, any warm area in Feb is better than New England where I reside, so a winter get away is always well deserved

Let us know what you choose
