Has anyone ever done the beartooth pass at this time of year? (Sep. 18)? Just wondering if i would run into a snow storm up top? Also, what about yellowstone park and the chief joseph highway?
I rode it last weekend, it was fine, but the weather can be unpredictable this time of year in Wyo and MT, it's supposed to be warm though for the next week, so you may be fine, got some road construction going on, but it's not to bad. I'd say you'll be fine just watch the weather.
We were on the pass about this time last year and other than cold it was ok. Yelowstone was not crowded and so very little congestion. Just watch out for the elk in the mammoth hot springs area as they close to being in rut. Almost got taken out by one if it werent for a ranger and his trusty shovel. All said one of the best trips I have ever taken you will enjoy it.
This is the best time of year for riding around the Greater Yellowstone region, IMO. ('course, I know what to expect from the weather. Like Wyoming55 said: expec it to be unpredictable, which means rain/snow.)
You may hit some rain or snow up there and at Dunraven Pass in the Park. The snow won't stick yet. West Yellowstone gets a little rainier this time of year, too.
Next week is probably our last week of real summery weather in terms of warmth.

Thanks.
I hit sleet & snow at the top on July 3rd a few years back so I wouldn't rule it out. Yellowstone & CJH, not so much.
This is Mid July and it was cool....notice the snow by the road and in the mountains still. Dress warm and you'll be fine......what a great place to ride....
I did Yellowstone and the Beartooth last year about this time. Be ready for huge variations in temperature. On my trip it ranged from 90 degrees in Rock Springs to near freezing early in the morning in the Grand Tetons.
It's a great time to go because the crowds in Yellowstone are MUCH smaller, and you can actually enjoy the driving. The long range forecast for next week looks good!
