Heading west, no set plan
The redwoods in Northern California are an awesome ride and just inland from the coast and really spectacular. The coast in northern California and Oregon are awesome. Have a great and safe enjoyable trip, hope the weather holds out. We have had some good and bad weather so far this spring in Oregon. I purchased my 09 SG in southern California last year and rode up the coast and really enjoyed the ride from Santa Barbara to San Francisco after that I headed inland as the weather was turning bad and I just needed to make up time. South of Santa Barbara there was just too much traffic and too many stops for me but the northern part is awesome check out the Hurst Castle if you have time I did not but it looked cool.

Weather is changing and so are the plans. We plan to ride out of here tomorrow (Friday) afternoon and head for New Mexico. We'll prolly make it to Monticello UT or Cortez CO tomorrow night, then on to Albuquerque NM on Saturday. We'll most likely hit some wind, but should be south of the cold wet weather this weekend. We'll meet our friends there and then head west, most likely on parts of the Route 66 that are still in tact. It's nice not having to cancel any reservations.
Back from the trip and had a blast. Weather dictated where we could go. High winds the first 3 days were not fun, but we stayed dry. Day 1, Orem UT to Cortez, CO. Winds about 30 mph the last couple of hours. Day 2, Cortez to Gallup NM. Winds up to 40 mph, with gusts to 60. Sand blowing so hard between Shiprock and Gallup that visibility was down to 10 feet in places. Highway I40 closed between Gallup and Flagstaff AZ because of high winds. Day 3 Gallup to Kingman AZ. High winds again up to Flagstaff but started to let off after that to Kingman. Day 4 We wanted to head to Death Valley and Yosemite then up to Tahoe but weather up that way was rain and snow so we revised to stay in AZ, NV and then UT. Kingman to Oatman to Lake Havasu City to Laughlin. Great weather, warm temps no wind. Day 5 Laughlin to Hoover Dam (did the Dam Tour), then over the North Shore Drive to Valley of Fire, then to Mequite NV. Gotta love $25 rooms and $8 Prime Rib. Day 6 Mesquite NV to St George UT to the Bear Paw for breakfast. Best coffee in Utah I believe. Then to Zion, by Bryce and over through Boulder and Escalante to Torrey. This ride just never gets old. Day 7, Torrey UT back to Orem. Great times and weather for the most part.
Too bad about the winds first couple of days. Heat, Cold, or Rain I can still enjoy riding. But high winds.... not for me.
Good to hear it let up and you all were able to make an enjoyable trip out of it.
