Default Minneapolis to Black Hills and beyond?

Hi there!

Two gals heading west from Minneapolis to the Black Hills and maybe farther? We have 8 days and are looking for great places to stay and how far is a reasonable distance to go west and make it home. We are both good at going long distances in a day..... any suggestions?

Thanks for the help!

You might try Hwy 212 across to Beartooth Pass and into Yellowstone. Hit the Black Hills on the way back. Lot of nice country out there.

camping or motels? have you been to the hills before? mps to spearfish is around 600 miles. figure either 2 hard days round trip or 4 easy ones. leaves 4 to 6 days to explore.
all the rides in black hill area and seeing mt.rushmore and crazy horse etc. takes 3 days or so. how about a trip to cody wy. to round out a great run?

Motels. We have been there before but trailered the bikes there. I really would like to go to Yellowstone but wasn't sure if 8 days is enough time.

I would think it could be done. We've done Beartooth/Yellowstone in 5 days fron NW Iowa.

I went from central MN to Yellowstone last year and went through the Black Hills on my way in 6 days. Yellowstone/Cody was beautiful! I was on a solo trip and would do it again. 8 days would be enough time to take in a lot of it.

Since you are going to Yellowstone, I would stay in Cody, nice town with plenty of places to stay and easy access to Yellowstone. My brother and I have done this from MN and 8 days should be plenty. The Ponderosa Campground has cabins and even though you are staying in motels, it is a great clean place to stay. Check out the Buffalo Bill museum, 5 museums in one place!

Have a great trip.

Me and some friends are heading that way the first week of july. We decided not to make any place a destination, just go where the road takes us.
