You likely noticed that the more direct route north to Morgantown is I-77 to Rt 19 just north of Beckley (do NOT speed on 19 through Fayetteville or Summersville!), then I-79.

A much nicer ride would be (in VA) to take I-77 then 1-81 north to exit 98. There take Rt 100 into WV to Rt 219. 219 is nice all the way to Huttonsville. Stay on it from Huttonsville through Elkins (unfortunately this section will be somewhat conjested). Then split off on 250 north to Grafton and Rt 119 North to Morgantown.
