Looking to go this year and wanted to hear from those who have attended in the past.
The bigger campsites are already booked. It looks like Cooper Creek State Forest may be okay to camp and reasonably close (12 miles). Any comments or suggestions?
Most rallys have maps or routes to ride in the area. I will be coming up from FL and am not familiar with the area. Any recommended rides with good restaurants and watering holes in the vicinity?
Is downtown the only happening spot or are there vendors, events, bars, etc. scattered around? I am used to Daytona and Leesburg where everything is spread out and there is a lot to do and see.
Nearly every road is fun to ride. Roads in WV look like a snake hit by a shovel. The roads climb and dip and turn back on themselves as they follow the contours of the land. We would not have been surprised if we passed ourselves going the outher way....
Yep, sorry about the name. The rally is at the end of July in Morgantown. Did you stay at the campground at the rally?
No we stayed at a Holiday Inn about 17 miles away. Momma's got a rule that says she gets A/C and a private bathroom....
The people staying at the campground (The one next door to Mountainfest) seemed to be having a great time... Buses ran from Mountainfest to the campground and the buses always looked like a traveling party!
Most of the events are at Mylan Park or Triple S HD. Downtown only has the vintage bike races. Campground and Coal Bucket Saloon are adult only. There is a poker run route that you can ride any day and winner is announced Sat nite. Best riding is east and south of Morgantown. Any route toward Elkins or Mt Storm is a good ride.

You likely noticed that the more direct route north to Morgantown is I-77 to Rt 19 just north of Beckley (do NOT speed on 19 through Fayetteville or Summersville!), then I-79.
A much nicer ride would be (in VA) to take I-77 then 1-81 north to exit 98. There take Rt 100 into WV to Rt 219. 219 is nice all the way to Huttonsville. Stay on it from Huttonsville through Elkins (unfortunately this section will be somewhat conjested). Then split off on 250 north to Grafton and Rt 119 North to Morgantown.
In Morgantown Marios's Fishbowl serves ice cold beer (in frozen fishbowl mugs) and has decent food as well. http://www.mariosfishbowl.biz/
I'll be heading out to Mountainfest too. Daughter's boyfriend works for Marriott and got us a suite for a real good price. Will check out the campground and if the OL approves, we'll be camping next year.
Ridewva...thanks for the tip on Mario's. Looks like my kind of place.
