Default Food in Bar Harbor Me.

I'm headed up to Bar Harbor next week. I'm not too worried about roads but I am interested in recommendations for good eats! ... Any tips and "must visits? would be appreciated.

Thanks
Steve

How many days are you here, and where are you staying? In town or out?

Just outside of Bar Harbor you get the best deals. In Ellsworth is a great lobster pound, big place forget the name but everyone knows it. Great whale watching and lobster boat tours in bar harbor. Cadalic mtn. And arcadia national park great as well.

We're only going to be there Mon and Tues. Unfortunately taking 4 wheels this time due to time constraints but better than staying home. We'll be staying in Ellsworth and seeing the sights from there.

FWIW, Ellsworth is 30 minutes from Bar Harbor and Acadia.

As mentioned, Atlantic Brewing and the bbq at Mainley Meat is pretty good. They have a tasting room downtown BH near the Village Green if you don't want to go to Town Hill for the brewery.

Poor Boy's on lower Main is excellent for lobster, best deal on the island. Blaze on Main is a wood fired joint, about 30 beers on tap, good food as well. McKays Public House is good (on lower Main as well), as is Side St Cafe and Lompoc on Rodick. All have outdoor seating, good food, good beer, and it's where we eat. Avoid the waterfront at all costs, except for Galyn's, all the other places are tourist rip off's where you will pay for the privilege of being near the harbor.

Enjoy your stay here, too bad about no bike.....I'll think of you as I ride the Loop Road in the park

Thanks for the advice and tips. I'll look up some of these places for sure.

Does anyone have experience with any of the boat tours in the area. We're tossing between whale watching and lobster fishing. I like the idea of the lobster boat because your closer to the water and action.

A group of friends and I will be in Bar Harbor on Sept 22 and 23. Some where between 10 to 12 bikes. Some are shipping their bikes to Washington,DC and riding back to Mexico with me and some are renting. We plan on riding around the island and have Breakfast in Southwest Harbor at Sips. We plan on leaving the Quality Inn on Kebo St. at 8:30 am on Sunday. Peculierboy, your more than welcome to join us.

The whale boats go way out into the Atlantic, about 40-50 miles and it can sometimes get rough. If it gets rough or foggy, they cancel. The lobster boat tours, if it is the Lulu, is awesome, and stays in Frenchman's Bay. Capt Jon is a riot, you will like it!

Sounds like a great vacation! If you need any riding recommendations, let me know your route.

Sips is a great place, good choice. Thanks for the invite, I appreciate it, but we own a small inn here in BH and we are kinda busy for breakfasts....
