Florida Trip
You might want to check on road conditions before deciding to ride the coast all the way. Sandy hit the coastal areas pretty hard between you and the NC/SC border. You may find a lot of detours or closed roads near the coast. Once you get down here to FL you should be OK to ride A1A as much as you like. Any coastal flooding we got down here from Sandy is pretty much taken care of.
Make some time to stop in St. Augustine. Also take a ride onto US 1 and check out Rossmeyers HD and Destination Daytona. Really would help to know how much time you have, but there are lots of things to see and do once you get to FL.
Sounds like a great ride. I'm jealous!

when you get to Homestead / Florida City take Card Sound Road instead of US 1 down
then stop by Alabama Jacks for a drink and lunch before heading over the bridge and into the keys!

Be careful if you wind up in Savanah. Just like anywhere else... can get really "bad" within a block or two.
Check out Jekyll Island if you get the chance.
I'll second St. Augustine, and Destination Daytona.
Great beer battered fish @ Finn's on Flagler beach! (Went twice while down @ biketrailerfest)
Have fun, ride safe.
