My 83 fxrs shocks are shot, should i keep my 35mm with dual disk, or upgrade to the 39mm dual disk ones?

Definitely upgrade is you can but keep the original frontend the early FXR's are going up in value every year.

Thanks, but the bike is far from original. So ill probably do the switch. The only thing stock is the engine and frame. Upgraded whole primary off a 91 fxr, 2.0kw high torque starter, tp engineering 6 speed transmission, custom made std heads. I read on some forum that says the 35 was better then the 39 alot of people were saying that.

I personally like the look of the 35mm, do what you like...I rebuilt mine, I bought the kit at j&p cycles, it was very easy to do, and while I had it apart I polished the lowers...Mike

You have 2 options... whether do a 39 conversion or a 35 EVO conversion
Both will let you upgrade your brakes to 11.5" rotors and 4 piston '99 and later calipers
Single discs are cheaper, dual discs can be pricy because everybody is looking for those.
You will also need a speedo sender unit for EVO that goes on the left instead of the right (shovel)
If you keep your shovel wheel, you'd need to machine your hub to accept the 11'5" rotor with smaller center hole, or machine the rotor to fit your shovel wheel
If you upgrade your braker to 4 piston calipers, you need to get an EVO wheel (cast) too because the spokes are thinner, otherwhise machine your shovel wheel to clear the caliper
