1991 FXR - switch to 49mm front suspension??
Anybody have any input on swapping out the complete 39mm front suspension to a 49mm one?? - from a Dyna possibly??
I see complete take-offs on eBay and Craigslist now and then and thought that this swap might make sense only if there is any performance advantage obviously.
Just wanted to get input from anybody else who has done it, or maybe this is a bad idea?!
Thanks !
* Increased rigidity due to a larger cross-section V/S the wet pasta FXR small fork tubes. Your front wheel will also resist unwanted turning.
* Larger ID so you can toss the crappy HD damper rod system inside all conventional (non-cartridge) systems. There are many that I have done on this forum and featured in magazines (not that that lends any credibility as they will say anything for a $1.00)
* The ability of putting on much better calipers & rotors.
* The ability of using a sealed double row 1" wheel bearing & hollow aftermarket chrome molly, heat treated axle.
Is there a mid-glide tree setup for the 49mm front end??
Anything else to look out for when doing the swap ?
Any additional tips?! I looked on your web site and didnt see that conversion on there, but is there anything overly complicated with it?
In those pics you have, are those the Showa sliders?
Thanks!
