Interesting question. I suspect they were the short ones. The FXRS and FXRT, also the Police version all had twin discs and tall suspension as best I recall.
What legnth forks did the 1992 FXR Super Glide Standard have? Were they they tall ones like the FXRT or were they the shorter ones like the Low Rider?
A standard FXR did not have the two inch over forks and dual discs that were standard on the FXRS-SP, the FXRS-Convertible, the FXRT, and the police models.
So, is it accurate to say that all single disc Fxr's have short tubes and all dual disc FXR's are 2" longer?
Not completely true. There were so many variants of the FXR over the years, that it's hard to keep track of them all. Also, calling them short tubes is not an accurate statement. I would call them standard length forks.
Harley started marketing the "sport package" around 1986 or '87. It was an option that could be had for a couple of hundred more bucks. The FXRS-SP was officially designated a "model" around 1988 or so. I think it was the first model marketed with the taller suspension (2" over front forks, longer rear shocks) and dual disc brakes up front. The FXRS-SP model is also verified by the two letters "EG" in the 5th and 6th position of the VIN.
Thanks, any with 39mm tubes? The reason I'm asking is because some day I would like to change my FXLR over to duals if I find the right deal.
Check to see if your right slider has the mount for brake caliper. If not, can't you just buy a right slider off of a bike that had duals? Also, not sure if your wheel's hub is set up for another disc…I don't think it is.
I just noticed you sig pic. Your FXLR looks lowered…is it? The front forks look shorter than normal, and so do the rear shocks. Just curious.
