Default 75 FLH ratchet top shifer issues

Fixing up a 75 FLH. Previous owner was going to make a bobber and had installed a FXE shift arm, which is at the 12 o'clock position as opposed to the FLH shift arm which is at the 6 o'clock position. I wasn't able to get 1st gear on its maiden voyage due to the shift linkage hitting the top of the rear exhaust pipe. Pulled the ratchet top, (what a PITA that was), to install the proper shift arm and found a broken pawl carrier spring and bad/missing gaskets. In my manual, Clymers, the diagram for the shift cam has 2 timing marks, one for a FXE and one for a FLH. Mine has only one and looking in the J&P catalog, the one they sell only has one timing mark as well. My question is, which is right? In the diagram, the FLH timing mark appears to be one tooth off from the FXE one. Do I stick to the one timing mark, or SWAG it and offset one tooth. Definitely baffled. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the response Crash69. My shifter cam gear is like the one in your picture you posted. There are 5 gear tooth valleys on either side of the timing mark, so I think I'm good to go. Once my new parts come in, I'm going to "dry" assemble the ratchet top and run through the gear selections to make sure I can get all four. I just as confused as all get out as to why the Clymers and Harley manuals both say the cam gear has two timing marks whereas mine and a replacement from J&P only have one. I checked, double checked, and rechecked to make sure the short tooth on the shifter drum meshes with the timing mark on the shifter cam gear.

You can call JP since you bought it there, maybe they have a tech line, I heard that the FX has two lines, no sure about that...

Just finished redoing a 75 FLH. For FL/H models you need to align the timimg mark as it appears in post #3. If you do not you will get all gears once it is reassembled
