Default Wiring harness

My first HD experience is a 1983 FXWG that I acquired in a state of disassembly. I've never really seen this thing together and I'm very unfamiliar with HD in general.

I got this:
https://www.namzcustomcycleproducts....-bike-harness/

It's the "complete" wiring harness for the bike. It comes with great schematics. The wires are properly labelled and seem to correspond to the print. The problem I'm having is that I really don't know where this stuff goes on the frame. Where is that "Hot Box" supposed to mount? and the fuse box? What do those plugs go to?

Any help or pictures for at least getting started would be greatly appreciated.

that is a custom for anything wire harness and diagram - you will have to figure that one out on your own to locations that wont be in the way of something else

i dont install that type, takes to long and locations are a big issue with me

having said that they do offer a all in one approach, But if something burns out what do you do then as no replacements are AS i know are available, only another wire harness as a complete unit

Thanks Johnjzjz. That lines up pretty well with what I figured. There has to be some basic starting point though. If I mount the Hot Box and Fuse box under the seat by the battery, will I still have the lengths needed to reach the handlebar and tail-lights? It seems like there must be some basic starting point.

I would start by laying out the harness along the backbone of the frame. That said I would think that the box would be mounted on the frame between the gas tanks. And on stock bikes the circuit breakers are mounted underneath the dash plate (3 of them) and the 4th runs offf the positive side of the battery.

I figured that may come up. I'm using some aftermarket single tank that came with the rest of the disassembled bike. I actually had to modify the frame to mount it properly. It doesn't seem like a convenient place for fuses. I'm hoping that the box will be about to mount under the seat somewhere.

Another modification to this bike is the newer oil bag. It's the wraparound style so the battery is only accessible from under the seat.

The fuse strip's stock location is mounted on a bracket welded to the stock fender right under the seat.

Just rewired my 75 FLH. Used an old trick I learned decades ago repairing Army secure voice equipment, wire in one circuit at a time to avoid any confusion. IGNORE all other wires/circuits as you do. I also recommend you do a continuity test on the harness connector block to identify the connectors for each circuit along with checking the continuity at the wires terminus. This way you're guaranteed to not cross wire anything.
