Default Wheel bearing end play

Not too familiar with tapered bearing in wheels, I think the PO of my bike had thrown in some new bearings but didn't bother checking end play afterwards, the rear wheel seems ok, but might be a little snug, so I'll have to add some shims, the front wheel has TONS of play so I'll have to, from what I understand, remove some material on the lathe since there are no shims installed.

For the rear, what kind of shims do I need to use? I can't seem to find part numbers anywhere.

There is a shim kit you can order from HD. I've seen it in the parts book but don't have it handy right now.

I see when you are shimming the inner spacer in the wheel that you are supposed to use a stepped shim so that it mates against the bearing. The ones I find are 43650-82, but all the sites I try and order it from tell me it doesn't fit on my bike. I'm confused ha, I miss sealed bearings.
