Default '76 FLH ... your opinion

Hey All, need your opinion on this. I'm 65 and retired the first of March and my wife tells me I need to buy another bike, bless her. I have been wrenching on Harley's since 1965 so I'm not new to rebuilding a Harley.

I found a '76 FLH that needs some TLC, I don't remember the mileage. The bike was last run a couple years ago and the owner says the heads have not been updated to unleaded fuel. He has removed the original fairing and saddlebags and they are part of the deal. Asking price is $5000, I think I can get it for $4500 or even $4000.

I have tinkered with Panhead's, rebuilt Flatheads and Evo's, but have not had a Shovelhead in the past, so my question ... would this make a good project bike and is the price right?

With your background shovels a good choice and they are not the nightmare they get made out o be. The bike you are looking can't say without some pics to get an idea of condition & what's been or not been done to it.

Yeah ... I didn't take photos when I looked at it ... I didn't see any damage, the only thing I remember the owner said was done, is the primary has been separated from the oil tank. Other than that I think it's pretty much stock. I going a lot on memory here, it was 5 months ago when I looked at it, but I also know the owner still has it.

My '76 when I brought it home in 1990.
It had been in a shed for 15 years.
Spray can paint, brakes gelled up, but it ran and drove.
After a GOOD wash to get the crud off.

Same bike after a lot of TLC.

Go for it.
