Default Harley 1979 FLH Purchase

Hello everyone, I am in the market for my first Harley and came across this one the other day. I'm relatively knew to bikes (this will be my first purchase) so I would appreciate any advice and what to look out for. Don;t want to get ripped off or duped into buying a bike that turns out to have a bunch of issues. Any info is greatly appreciate! Thank you! Happy riding to everyone!

Thanks for the info but I don't know anyone with Shovelhead experience to help me out. Was hoping I would be able to find someone on this forum! Fingers crossed!

Shovel's aren't a good first time bike for beginners, they take a certain level of mechanical skill on the owners part and need regular attention. Ride wise if you've ridden later imports the shovel is a crude, slow vibrating beast by comparison. Evo's may be a better choice if you're just getting started, early twin cams are going cheap too.

After having ridden my friend's dirt bike three times, I bought my first bike 3 years ago, when I was 18. It's a 1972 FLH. I've learned a lot, and spent many (some frustrating) hours in the garage, which is actually one of the reasons I wanted a shovel. It's part of the fun. Wouldn't have done it any other way, personally.

But, I will say, it is definitely not for everyone.

I have one. There isn't a bolt anywhere on it that I haven't turned.
I love it.

Yeah you have long enough you'll know it more intimately than the wife or girlfriend that's for sure and love every damned second of it, the true meaning of addiction....

I see as a solution to life's problems a shovel with straight pipes will clear the mind
