Default Low Rider Exhaust Question

I have a 1980 FXS. From the parts manual it looks like the 2-to -1 exhaust got "tweaked" that year. The 65311-77 pipes are for 1977 while the 65311-78 are for 78 and up. The muffler is 65353-78 for 77-79 and 65430-80A for 80 and up.

The pipes and muffler look identical. Anyone know the diff or what changed? Is it mounting differences? I can't find the 65430 on eBay but see the 65353 from time to time and I'm wondering if it would fit.

I'm handy. But I don't weld. So the bracket question is of concern to me. My question is simply: will it bolt on? I'm sure someone has done it, or tried it.

Hi scooper, I have a 1981 FXEF (1340) Superglide and managed, after much searching to find a brand new NOS 65353-78 complete with shields. I certainly paid for an item that was rarer than rocking horse doo doo. I also remember having to buy and fit a new bracket as the original one would not work. Looks sweet although it is probably a little quieter than what I would like.
So yes it will fit. Not sure of any differences.

As I recall the Bracket for the 2-1 exhaust is one that only reaches back, the staggered duals has two arms, one reaching forward the Other rearward.. Yea, I am Captain Obvious here.. But Then, I did Not know there were two different 2 into 1 Brackets!!!

Nope. It's all good info though. As I get closer to deciding on exhaust I'll give the brackets a further look. I just don't weld myself so I'd like something that would easily bolt on. I'm running the staggered drag pipes now so there's definitely going to be a bracket change. Just hope I can find one!

I'll find some Info... as I also have one of those Exhausts... [unmounted]

Edit; The Bracket is pn 65760-77A so it may just be useable from '77 on..

All info is welcomed! And thanks for the bracket p/n, too! If you're looking to unload the exhaust, let me know that as well!

They are not. According to my parts manual they stayed the same throughout... So if that's the case I don't see why the 77-79 muffler wouldn't work on your 80 bike. It's possible that late 79 and early 80 they went to the 80" motor so maybe the baffling changed for noise regulations...
