Default 75 FLH Mainshaft Bearing Support

Pulled my transmission to install the speedometer drive gear. Someone had obviously been in there before. During the removal, I noticed that there wasn't a mainshaft bearing support plate. My question is were there some 4 speed transmissions of the ratchet top variety made that didn't require it? There are some standoff ears cast into the transmission case and from using my calibrated eyeball, there isn't any room to install the bearing support. Thanks.

Racepres, thanks for your response. FLH, my bad. Got it a couple of years ago as a basket case. What got me wondering is when I was ordering parts, the vendor sells a mainshaft bearing support plate. The case is painted black and I didn't see a seam, so I figured I was good to go, just needed some verification before I reinstall everything.

Everyone has those available... for folks Not running an Inner Primary..

I do Advocate a new primary Support bearing... and if not a Sealed Primary... I use a sealed Bearing...

That explains everything. Didn't occur to me that the bearing support was for not running an inner primary.

Racepres and Bumpandrun, thanks again for the education. Did run into another issue. The threads for the shift shaft retaining screw are stripped. Any idea of what size thread and pitch is? Need to retap.

The set screw that holds the shifter fork shaft. Swung by lowes after work and sized it on their bolt size board of mystery. 1/4-24. Now to find a tap that size.

I've never heard of a 1/4-24 tap. 1/4-20 is UNC, 1/4-28 is UNF. Still, it could be that size. I have a 1/4-32 tap at home. It's the extra fine series. I believe the front master cylinder uses that size thread somewhere.
