Default Head scratcher

Hey guys, just picked up a cone shovel motor for next to nothing, it's complete and turns over so it might be worth freshening up. My question is the block numbers. I've never seen any like this.
*BEKCO13793*
It has stars before and after. A long look on the interweb turned up nothing.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Got this site from one of the guys on this forum:
https://www.techsweb.us/hdvin7080.html#top

Sometimes they used 'upside down' numbers and the style of letters/numbers is different so it's easy to misread

Thanks SparkyD. Yeah, no upside down numbers or letters and their stamped right next to the front mount on the left case. Just wish MOCO had left well enough alone.

I am not the expert, they will show up soon I hope, but that is not a MoCo number. Give the cases a good look, STD, S&S or other aftermarket branding is probably there, Or maybe the numbers are some form of State DMV stamping from back in the day.

Did you get paper with this motor? What does that say??

Got it from a friend, he's a looking for the paperwork. I don't see any aftermarket stamps on it anywhere. I'm pretty sure it's not s&s, I've delt with those before. Maybe a state stamp? Could be. It's just odd. Do you know of any other aftermarket supplier that used this ?

Thanks barnyboy. It just threw me off not having the 1hd or 2hd. So it still begs the question if this is aftermarket cases. Time for the wire brush and a good light.

as long as the title and frame number match your good to go

they are in fact after market type numbering we see all the time - if your plan is to get it running before you fix things that may not be broken - then go for it

check everything fresh gas clean the carb set the points good battery and see what happens

I don't think they are aftermarket cases. HD has used this same 10 digit abbreviated VIN code on the engine since 1981. The first 2 digits are the model code. The 3rd digit is the engine code. The 4th digit is the model year code. The last 6 digits are production numbers.

Perfect...except the '82 should have V-fire II ignition system
The "left case" threw me... but sometimes 1982 on shovels sport the Number on the left case... Not always certainly... in fact... from my experience it is rare...
as it is More of an Evo thing!!!
Are there Numbers on the right case? at the Frontmost lifter stool??
