1970 FLH Tranny top
Hi from Australia. I have just obtained a 1970 FLH. It is a foot shift with electric start. It is in need of some work but I am getting to all of that. The bike came with every accessory available at the time in 1970. Lots of chrome parts too.
First off, can I remove the tranny top without removing the tranny from the bike?.
I noted the left side foot shift selector is all loose making it hard to get any gears.

I'm with TwiZ,
When you need to start pulling components off to access a tranny ( or another part, in the future) why not go the step further and examine and refresh as much as you can. Older machines always need something so replace ,or repair while you're in there.
Does not eliminate but reduces the possibility of being parked while out tooling around because of a tranny issue.

Tranny top.
Thanks for all the info, I guess I'll just pull the tranny out and go from there.
I have a few issues as she has not run for some time. It has the old Harley puking oil out the crank case breather as well. But, It has not run for over 7 months. Will look at the pump ball and spring.

Its almost if it did not do that sitting you worry
dont change the oil till you get it started and ride it for 15 20 minuets then drop the oil and change the filter - ball and spring if fine
this is not an oil thread while everyone’s choices are the best - who cares we use valoline 60 weight because its loaded with zinc motor and trans we buy it in 55 gallon drums when available
