Default Shift lever

My 58 to 68 parts book shows two shift levers. 33660-54 1954-1964 and 33660-65 1965 on. My question is one of them is splined and the other is smooth. I have a splined heel shifter that I want to put on my 67 FLH but the lever is smooth. I’m guessing that the earlier one is splined but I wanted confirmation from the experts before I try to find one. Thanks in advance.

1965 they changed the shifter mount bracket and chrome cover to a flat style with a slight indent. The 64 down is what I call the toaster looking cover where the toe shifter comes out of the slot and the heel shifter is a separate lever mounted on the inboard side of the shifter and has a real hook to it to get it around from behind and over to your foot. They are not splined and neither is my 72 FX.

To add, my 61 is not splined and my 62 was not either.

Thanks for replies. Top shifter has a smooth bore. Bottom one is splined.

Mystery solved from information from another site. Splined shift lever was re introduced in 1974. My 1961 and later parts book shows it with part number 33660-74.
