Shift lever question
One year ago, I noticed loosening in the fitment of the toe (front) shift lever where it attaches to the shifter shaft. I found wear on the toe shift lever and on the shifter shaft where they join. I replaced both... with Harley Davidson replacement parts. The heel (rear) shift lever appeared intact and worthy and didn't require replacement.
Now one year and 4300 miles later, the toe (front) shift lever is loose again with evidence of wear and breakdown in the grooves where the shift lever fits onto the shifter shaft.
I keep the attachment bolts tight and inspect the fitment as a matter of routine in my regular pre-ride inspection.
I am surprised with the toe shift lever breaking down in such a short time and am disappointed that the local Harley dealership wants $55 for a new shift lever.
I understand the problem is not uncommon but am curious how long folks usually go before having to replace shift levers?
Thanks for your attention.
In your case, you should have probably replaced the shaft also..
