This is another old post. But very much worth the reading Love this site. Any was I've been doing lots of work on my 1978 1975th Ammiversary. FLH. Well I've seen lots of posts concerning ride comfort. And have to agree my Solo seat gave me the best ride. My 1978 has the buddy seat with the pogo that's really stuck. Somebody replaced the grease fitting. And it's way to long, I removed it. But still that darn pogo is stuck..My plan is to rig a come along, And jack that sucker out. My bike is on a hydraulic maintenance rig. Widow maker. Air operated. I am afraid I will reinjure my back. Pulling on this pogo. I've used penetrant oil and it's been soaking for a few days. Still waiting on a few parts. So I can still clean and correct the very small corrosion parts that are all over my bike. Bought it out of Datona Beach Florida. He only owned it for six months. But needed money to fix his boat. Ya I hear ya ! Anyway the fun began. I've been able to ride it, but I was replacing fluids after every ride. Oil and tyranny. Somebody replaced the tyranny with synthetic oil that's used on newer Harleys. Could never find zneutrial. I replaced the tyranny oil with 120 grade due to the miles. Did change it about 4 times now I got Neutrial. But that tyranny seal was just pouring out that 120. Along with my drive sprocket loose causing my chain to rub my inner primary. That all fixed, just letting you guys know your not the only victom of poor wrenching thst these older Harleys go thru. Oh I got alot more, enough to write a book.AJ
Well I am keeping my Pogo, like the ride when it works. Of course Mine was flattened out. No giving me a nice ride. I had to use a come along and a chain. Rigged it up in the metal rafters. The zert fitting was way to long and it bent the pogo sleeve in two places the adjustment was way up. Plugged the bottom hole and the zert! Fitting hole. Poured Naptha in the sleeve, filled it up. It's soaking as I post thus. Right now looking for another pogo assembly a solo seat rail, and a police seat. AJ
Well it's Sunday.kinda taking the day off really turned cold after a real nice Friday and Saturday. Been reading more posts. And pricing some pogo parts. Collinee has springs. Haven't taken my Pogo apart yet. Been reading my 19781/2 maintenance manual. The springs are color coated for weight and size. I weight about 230. That takes a combination of several different color springs. Am I reading that right? Don't know what I got with all that grease covering my springs. Also my shaft plan on a big clean out. Nothing in my pan right now. So that fluid stayed in their all nite. I've got a brush
To flush the sides clean. Need a new grease fitting, plan to install it first to make sure my Pogo clears it. But right now federal taxes are on the addenda. So no parts to be bought until after April. Ouch.AJ
Hey all... I wrote this post way back 15 years ago. Update: I never took the pogo off. I have kept his queen 100pct stock over the years (ham can, exhaust and all). She still runs like a sewing machine.
And, yeah, the pogo with stock seat is comfortable.
Here she is 15 years later looking just like she did in 2010 (and 1979)!

Did you remember to remove the nut on the bottom holding the pogo in?
Oh ya I sure did. But as you expected I did tReplace the nut when I tried to tap the pogo out. That did not work it was solid. And you.right. I did forget about that nut. Went into get some lunch, I had sprayed more penetrant. I did remove the nut before I gave that Come along two more shots. Came right out. But still had to jack.on it until the cylinder cleared that brass insert at the top. I expected to see alot more grease on those springs. The plunger is really messed up..stll soaking that shaft..cut a bolt to fit in the bottom hole. And used some gasket sealer red silicone to seal that bottom hole up. I just filled the shaft to the top again really turned cold. One thing I noticed my rear cylinder is really close to that pogo shaft. Less than 1/4: inch. I plan to polish the schovel heads. Thinking about removing my 5 gal fuel tanks. I am this far might as well. To check the wiring.might do that after I get that bottom side completed. I've removed them once when I first bought the bike. The forward tab on the right tank.was busted off Completely, vibration I guess, but realized somebody had left out the small spacer. On both sides. A guy did a nice job welding it up. But he retired a year ago. But have no.fear knuckle busters. The local shop.had a new guy. That's pretty darn good. AJ
low budget like that your seat is brown. Nice dont care for my black seat. And your carb is original. I have an S@S my carb was shot. When I got my bike. Ethanol fuel I suspected. With that S&S you can't hook.up.the stock choke. I still have it been brain storming how I can fix that. Like your.1979. AJ
Well been studying and re reading my Manual. Did get to order a new Pogo, can’t get parts I need. Somebody cut a couple inches off the pogo rod. So ordering a new chrome pogo was the way to go. AJ
