Shovel- starter does not engage
You have checked the solenoid ? Did you have it off by any chance ? If so did you get the spring and the linkage inside the primary back together correctly ? Stock starter should turn an 88" shovel no problem if the compression isn't sky high . I run 93" @ 11-1 , had to go with a 2.2KV Big ***** Starter , when she was 88 stock was fine .
My '74 had a similar problem...actually sounds like yours does. I checked my battery (it was actually a new battery), starter, starter relay and starter selonoid....it ended up being a $1.99 stater b utton on the handlebars! I also had the front brake wires (in the same housing) were grounding out. I fixed those wires and replaced the $1.99 button and it's been running great ever since! Sometimes it's the little things....good luck..
help please!
My 88" 1980 Shovel will not start. Original problem was that the stater did not seem to have the enegy to crank the engine. I have eliminated the battery as a problem by jumping from the car. The started was then refurbished, the brushes were worn but nothing bad about the condition. I also renewed the solenoid as a terminal was breaking out of the insulation.
The engine can be turned easily by hand using a socket onto the crank.
With the spark plugs out and the bike battery attached the engine wont crank. There is a loud clicking noise, I assumed that the solenoid is firing but not engaging the clutch drive. With the car battery attached there is no clicking, a noise more like the starter is spinning or trying to spin but nothing else. Changing back to the bike battery and the clicking noise re appears. I have stripped and rebuit the starter drive system a few times and cannot see anything obvious. Can anyone please help!
Thanks in advance
Steve

A weak relay?????????
What is the actual difference between a strong and a weak relay?
What is the actual change, and what happens differently as a result?
In what manner does a weak relay behave differently, or cause a different result to a strong relay?

Analytical means using logical reasoning.
You seem to think that this forum is not suitable for logical reasoning. I do not think that. When it comes to a question like "why is my starter not working properly", I think logical reasoning is desirable.
It is illogical reasoning that leads people to the belief that a relay can be "weak".
So do tell.
When a relay is weak, how does it operation differ from what it is strong?
It was obvious from the start that you would never answer my question.

Happens all the time with the cheap import crap most places sell anymore .
A word of advice , this forum is here for people to share their combined knowledge when someone has a problem and there's someone in here who has what you need for every conceivable problem . Start with being a dick to people who offer info you may like or don't your pretty much screwed from the gate , get my drift ?
A little in the way of good manners would go a long way in here . If that's a problem for you take your bike to your local Indy so he can tell you how big a dick your being by overcharging you .
Have a nice day .
